At the Game Awards 2018, Obsidian finally revealed the new IP they were working on with Take Two’s new label Private Division. It’s called The Outer Worlds.
Despite Obsidian being owned by Microsoft now, this will still be a multi-platform title.
As hinted from the previous artwork teases, this is a sci-fi game with some old-timey aesthetic, but not really a space cowboy game. This is however a first-person sci-fi RPG.
You are a colonist deep in hibernation being transported to the edge of the galaxy, but have ended up tangled into a conspiracy. There are factions to ally yourself with. The corporations are super slimy and there are interesting wildlife when you are this far out in space.
You have guns and melee weapons, but that’s not the only way to solve a problem. Choices matter in this player-driven story.
This is the game that Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky came to Obsidian to work on. The duo were involved in the creation of the original Fallout. Hence, the trailer touting “From The Original Creators of Fallout” as well as “And The Developers Of Fallout: New Vegas”.
Think of it as another Fallout-style game with a tinge of Borderlands.

The Outer Wilds will be out sometime in 2019 for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
