The King Of Fighters XV Reveal Trailer Coming This January, Three Returning Characters Teased

SNK has teased that a reveal trailer for The King Of Fighters XV will be coming in January 7, 2021. The next entry to the long-running fighting game series was announced back at Evo 2019.

The new teaser trailer reveals a new logo (brandishing the initials, as what fans commonly call the series) and three returning characters, in illustration form.

KOF frontman Kyo Kusanagi brandishes his black jacket and bandana again. Alongside him is another Japan Team member, the tall-haired Benimaru with a more oriental flair in his default costume. The third character to be teased is Shun’ei, who debuted in KOF XIV. He’s now treated as a protagonist for this title, which continues right after XIV.

“The way teams are composed [in KOF XV] will differ greatly from XIV,” said Creative Director Eisuke Ogura in the teaser trailer. “But more information will come out periodically next year so, in the meantime, fire up those dream rosters!

KOF XV is described to be the most ambitious KOF yet.

When SNK revealed The King Of Fighters XIV, it was met with lukewarm responses. It’s the first mainline title to ditch the ridiculously well-animated sprite art for 3D models, and the graphics look not up to par, to say the least. Since then, SNK has improved the visuals for KOF XIV via a game update.

But after the rebooted Samurai Shodown looking pretty nice with its 3D models and artstyle use, there’s hope that graphics quality won’t be in the way of the actual gameplay itself.

The reveal trailer for KOF XV will arrive on January 7th, 2021 (JST- GMT +7), alongside the reveal of the new Season Pass 3 characters for Samurai Shodown.
