The game announced in 2018 as The Elder Scrolls VI now has a proper subtitle, and you probably know what it is already. Bethesda has officially unveiled the name of the next mainline entry to the open world RPG series set in the high-fantasy world of Tamriel.
It’s now called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
The teaser trailer gives not only a new rendition of The Elder Scrolls leitmotif (no shouty men shouting for this one, that’s only for Skyrim), and a lot of sand motifs.
The quote that appears in the end makes mention of a person from Hammerfell and “sands of time scattered by the fate.” No official word on exactly where this next adventure will take place, but one can speculate from here.
It should be noted the the region of Hammerfell has been featured in various The Elder Scrolls games before, including a mainline title in the form of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. That particular title cover both Hammerfell and the neighbouring region High Rock. It is notable for how ridiculously huge with tens of thousands of locations, albeit rendered in what technology in 1996 had.
More recently, Bethesda Softworks development for big Bethesda titles from Bethesda Game Studios like Sentinel and a new Fallout game (presumably titled Fallout 5) are progressing.
There were no significant update on anything TES VI since the 2018 E3 announcement until that progress announcement back in July, which confirmed Obsidian to also be involved in the new Fallout game.
More recently, Obsidian has been moved into being part of the Bethesda umbrella from Xbox Game Studios, as part of another wave of reorganising (“reset” as Xbox CEO Asha Sharma puts it) which unfortunately included layoffs.
