It’s coming. The follow-up to the highly-rated survival city-builder Frostpunk is coming.
Frostpunk 2 will be set 30 years after the first game, set in a steampunk world that is facing an apocalyptic blizzard- hence the name of the title. The sequel will usher in the age of oil industry into the fold and promises to provide even more harrowing decisions to ensure the survival of the city- at the cost of your value of humanity.
“Frostpunk 2 builds on the conflicts of its predecessor – survival vs human values, life vs the arctic frost,” says Frostpunk 2 co-director Jakub Stokalski.
“But most importantly, it adds a new layer that is present in many aspects of the game – be it politics, be it society, be it technological progress – the conflict between humans and their nature”.
The first game lets you instil child labour and a choice of autocratic or heavily religious rule in order to keep the city and whatever is left of humanity continue living in the neverending winter. Or try and retain as much of our current social values with the penalty of less efficiency- which can be dire when you have a small chance of survival in a climate like this. How far will we be pushed this time around?
Developers 11 bit Studios also announced that Frostpunk has now sold 3 million copies as of April 2021, the game’s third anniversary of release.
Frostpunk is a fantastically well put together survival city builder with harrowing choices, beautiful (but bleak) city aesthetics and all the gameplay mechanics you’d expect from this game genre on top of a riveting world-building. You can check out our review of the game here.
You can try out the original Frostpunk on Steam this weekend for free– from August 12, 11 AM ET (11 PM Malaysia Time, GMT +8) to August 16, 1 PM ET (August 17, 1 AM GMT +8). Frostpunk is also available on PS4 and Xbox One.
