Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Gives First Look at Neo City

Sega has a new trailer for the upcoming Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance. The 2D hack-and-slash action game developed by Lizardcube (of Streets Of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake fame) follows a new adventure of the titular Shinobi, Joe Musashi, in his quest for vengeance.

The rain-soaked urban landscaped draped in graffiti and various Sega iconography makes a return from G.G. Shinobi for the Game Gear.

You can see Lizardcube’s signature art style, 2D sprites with that ink-stroke-esque outlines, really pop here.

Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance is one of the many long-dormant Sega franchises that the Japanese publisher is reviving, alongside Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe and Jet Set Radio.

In other news, Sega is also bringing back racing game series OutRun but as a movie.

Of all the Sega revivals, Shinobi will be the first to be realised and released. Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance will be out on August 29 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Physical versions are available for PS5 and Switch.
