Mafia III Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary With New Update On PC, Native Current-Gen Versions

Can you believe it that Mafia III is now 10 years old? Time sure flies. To celebrate the occasion, publisher 2K has released an update on PC and made Mafia III: Definitive Edition run natively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, plus a big update filled with bug fixes on PC.

Mafia III can now be played at 60 FPS on consoles on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Story progression has been improved and a ton of visual bugs have been fixed.

If you own Mafia III: Definitive Edition for PS4 or Xbox One (this version is also included in the recent Mafia: The Omertà Collection bundle or the older, now depreciated Mafia: Trilogy bundles), this is a free next-gen upgrade.

However, save files don’t transfer between the previous and current-gen versions of Mafia III.

The PC version of Mafia III: Definitive Edition, which doesn’t need next-gen upgrades, still isn’t left out from the love. It too has been updated today with a bunch of bug fixes, including improved story progression and better NPC behaviour.

Full patch notes for Mafia III: Definitive Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the PC version, can be found here.

Mafia III takes a big step for the action game series about criminal gangs. The game stars Lincoln Clay who is set out to take revenge from the mobsters that run the city of New Bordeaux that killed his adoptive family. While the first two Mafia games focused on the specific mob gang it is named after and follows a linear story progression, Mafia III went open world, where Lincoln is free to take down the various different mobs that control parts of the city, one of which is the local mafia. It’s a very different direction for the series, but its latest, Mafia: The Old Country, went back to the roots of the franchise by telling a more focused story and in a smaller-scoped linear game.

It’s nice to see 2K still maintains its catalogue of games to some degrees. While these issues could’ve, and should’ve some might argue, been fixed years ago, it’s still nice that it did eventually materialise.

Mafia III: Definitive Edition is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
