2K announced that the three Mafia games are getting a bundle as part of Mafia: Trilogy, available on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Stadia. But it’s not just a three-in-one bundle.
The original Mafia is getting a “from-the-ground-up” remake as Mafia: Definitive Edition. Developed by Hangar 13, it will run on the same engine as the latest Mafia III. It has an updated script, new cutscenes with new voice recordings and also new gameplay sequences. The game takes place in the 1930s, in a fictionalised Chicago- the town of Lost Haven.
Meanwhile, Mafia II gets a remaster as Mafia II: Definitive Edition. Set in the ’40s and ’50s fictionalised New York City (Empire Bay), this remaster includes all DLC and supports up to 4K resolution. The remaster is being done by D3T Limited. Mafia II: Definitive Edition is a free upgrade to owners of the original PC version.
Finally, Mafia III, the latest entry, is set in 1968 of fictionalised New Orleans (New Bordeaux). All the campaign DLCs and packs are bundled in as the Definitive Edition Content Pack, free to all Mafia III owners on PS4, PC and Xbox One. If you happen to have it via PS Plus, you can claim the Definitive Edition Content Pack too.
It’s cool to see that Hangar 13 is remaking the original Mafia, known for its amazing setting. And also as a very janky game. Hangar 13 comprises of studios in Brno and Prague, Czech Republic; Brighton, United Kingdom; and Novato, California. Those studios in Czech Republic are the team that made the original 2004 game.
Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition are now available on PS4, PC (Steam) and Xbox One. It will also be coming to Epic Games Store and Stadia.
Mafia: Trilogy, Mafia: Definitive Edition, releases on August 28 for the PS4, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox One, and coming soon to Stadia. You can buy the Mafia: Trilogy bundle right now (and get Mafia: Definitive Edition when it launches). Or buy any of the three games separately.
