Samsung and Nexon announced a collaboration between the two South Korean companies to bring 3D display support to The First Berserker: Khazan.
This will see the action-RPG supporting 3D, as in the effects that makes the visual “pop” further to the front and back of the supposed screen, on Samsung’s Odyssey 3D monitor.
The close collaboration sees them “working closely to tailor the 3D visuals, carefully adjusting them based on the composition of characters, backgrounds, and cinematics throughout
the game” and as a result, managed to reduce 3D crosstalk/ghosting, an issue of visual overlap which not only makes the 3D effect not work, but also cause users to see smearing visuals.
“The partnership between Samsung and Nexon will provide an unmatched gaming experience with ‘The First Berserker: Khazan’ on the Odyssey 3D monitor,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’ll continue to expand partnerships with premium gaming companies across the globe to deliver 3D gaming technology that provides the highest level of gaming immersion.”
“This partnership marks a significant step in establishing a competitive 3D gaming model on a global scale, driving innovation across the whole industry,” said Choi Sung-wook, head of the publishing live division at Nexon. “We are excited for gamers worldwide to experience the vibrant graphics and intricate gameplay of ‘The First Berserker: Khazan,’ made possible by the cutting-edge technologies available to our developers and the industry-leading Samsung Odyssey gaming monitor.”
3D effects in gaming was a big thing in the early 2010s, with the PS3 and Nintendo 3DS supporting the burgeoning tech, only for it to fizzle out. These days, 3D effects in gaming are now being pushed by PC monitor makers. Acer is still producing new versions of their glassless 3D monitors. And Samsung just revealed the new Odyssey 3D monitors at CES 2025.
If the collab does indeed produced an amazing, non-gimmicky experience, it could pave the way for more 3D effects adoption in PC games in the future.
The First Berserker: Khazan is an upcoming game based on the bigger DnF universe. A demo is currently available. The game will have a physical release, but not on PC.
