Bethesda announced that two of its upcoming games, Redfall developed by Arkane Studios and Starfield by Bethesda Games Studios, are delayed to the first half of 2023.
Both games were expected to release later this year, with Starfield previously announced a release date of November 11.
“The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them,” the statement reads on Twitter.
Redfall was announced as the last big reveal of the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase from last year. This is the new project from the Austin team at Arkane, which previously did Prey (2017). A co-op multiplayer game is something entirely new for the immersive sim specialists and outside of some leaks, we haven’t seen anything since the reveal.
Meanwhile Starfield is the next big game from the makers of Elder Scrolls and the current new releases of Fallout. After Fallout 4 being not as well-received, and Fallout 76 being what it is, Bethesda’s main studio has a lot to ride on in this sci-fi RPG and new IP. Starfield has also been shown little of, only scant details via dev diaries.
This is likely to temper expectations as we head closer to this year’s Xbox and Bethesda Showcase scheduled to be held on June 12. Expect to see a small showing from these two titles, if any, as they are still far away in development.
