Sega finally has started revealing new details for Virtua Fighter Crossroads in the format the fighting game community appreciates: character trailers. At Evo 2026, Virtua Fighter Crossroads gets a new trailer for a new character, simply known right now as the Bakunawa Killer.
The Bakunawa Killer will be playable in Battle Mode (i.e. the regular fighting game mode where you pick a stage, character and fight). In other words, this is a character that’s taking a spot in the Virtua Fighter Crossroads’ roster.
There has been a series of attacks on fighters lately in Vilasapara, the main setting of the game where its ambitious story takes place. The Bakunawa Killer is at the heart of this, as Cielo and Pai are pursuing this masked man who speaks Chinese.
The Bakunawa Killer sure has killer moves. You know dude’s got style when he can do kicks with his hands at his back. Pai seems to recognise this person once unmasked, so this could be as much of a previous Virtua Fighter character with their identity obscured for now for story reasons, or a new character that will have a name in the character select screen.
Not that Bakunawa Killer isn’t a good name for a fighter, shout out to Sega and developer RGG Studio for referencing the Filipino mythology of the moon-eating dragon (Vilasapara is a fictional Southeast Asian town that has a lot of its look and feel inspired by the Philippines). It’s just not conventional.

Virtua Fighter Crossroads will feature a story mode where you play as the four protagonists all here in Vilasapara for different reasons. The game name reveal showed off the first protagonist, Cielo. Expect the storylines to intertwine, cross even, throughout the adventure.
Sega provided this clear screenshot of the web of relationships for Cielo, and looks like he wants to kill the Bakunawa Killer. Who knows how the story thread unfolds from there.

Virtua Fighter Crossroads will still be a three-button 3D fighter, with the ability to jump and start playing sets right from the get-go for those not bothered with single-player story content. But that single-player story content sure looks mega.
We haven’t had a big story mode that plays like a different game in a fighting game since Capcom took a big swing with Street Fighter 6’s World Tour mode, which has winded down in new content additions after three years of support.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads has no release date yet and no confirmed platforms yet, but expect it to drop sometime in 2027.
