RE Resistance Is Flawed But Interesting

While I praise the Resident Evil 3 remake being one of the better games in the series, I seemingly left out one of the game’s “component” that perhaps in some view of the buyer, is why the new remake isn’t as good as the one that came before it.

And I must agree with them, on a small percentage.

Dead By Tyrant

As mentioned, Resident Evil Resistance is basically what you expect when you mix in the action element of the main game with the ever-popular 1v4 genre in a game to escape places like the Umbrella labs or even a Raccoon City Casino.

All of which is controlled by Masterminds, AKA past antagonists of the series like Chery Birkin’s mom or Alex Wesker (that evil lady from RE Revelations 2). You can play as them, controlling the zombies and, in the endgame, a Tyrant, as you try to counteract the survivors in their plans of escape.

On the survivors’ side, you can play up to six characters (plus Jill Valentine) who have their own quirks and features. Like Valarie who can heal your survivors or January who hacks terminals to have the escape door open faster.

Gameplay-wise, it follows the Dead By Daylight formula to a tee and with the deviation where you can place zombies, traps, and tyrants to make it quite Resident Evil. And it seems that after playing a few matches as both Survivor and Mastermind, I feel that it’s more fun to play as the villains here. Due to the variety of what the villains can do when compared to the survivors.

Intriguing but Quite Unbalanced

Like Capcom’s previous recent endeavors, which I would not name, Resident Evil Resistance has a good idea of making a game that is based on a genre that is quite popular at that time but falters when it needed the most, which is the gameplay side.

Resistance is a good idea with a flawed execution and even though it plays quite smooth and its gimmicks are fun, I feel that it couldn’t match the player attainability of the big guns in this genre.

But if Capcom could add more unique players, like perhaps add RE2 remake characters like Ada or Leon, then Resistance could have a good chance to make this as memorable as its rivals.
