Starting this week, the PS5 will be updated to support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
This tech dynamically adjusts the display’s refresh rate to match the game to eliminate screen tearing and frame pacing issues, similar to what Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync do.
You will need an HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TV or PC monitor to make use of VRR.
PS5 games will also be updated to make use of VRR. Here’s a list of released games that will receive an update to enable VRR:
- Astro’s Playroom
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Destiny 2
- Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
- DIRT 5
- Godfall
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Resident Evil Village
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
- Tribes of Midgard
However, you can also force VRR to run on unsupported games, as an option available in the settings menu. Results may vary.
