The cool PS5 30th Anniversary themes on the PS5 will be going away, but PlayStation says they will return in “the months ahead”.
The limited-time PS5 30th Anniversary themes launched last December in line with the 30th Anniversary of the launch of the first PlayStation and the PlayStation brand, Sony’s gaming arm.
The theme changes the UI sound and design to evoke the past four consoles: the neo-future blips of the PS1, the cool-edge beep-boops of the PS2, the sophisticated clickity-clacks of the PS3 and the ethereal wooshes of the PS4.
Also, the startup sequence plays out like the iconic PS1 startup.
The positive response doesn’t just come from fans loving the nostalgia, but it also shows the demand for custom themes, something the PS5 does not support and sorely missing as the PS3 and PS4 consoles had.
PlayStation has no plans to make more themes, unfortunately.
PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary celebration has mostly been centered around limited-time hardware, a demo for Gran Turismo 7 and these limited-time PS5 themes.
