PS5 users, boot up your console after a new system update install and see something cool.
For a limited time, the PS5 has special 30th Anniversary themes to celebrate the date of the original PlayStation launch in Japan, and consumer electronics brand Sony’s first steps in the games industry.
The PS5 has special boot-up screens, one that imitates the iconic original PlayStation’s boot-up sequence (the old SCE logo is brought back), one for the waking in rest mode, and one for turning off the console or putting it rest mode.
Alongside that, there’s five special themes you can pick which adds a little flourish to the default PS5 system menus, four of which imitates the system UI of the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4. That includes the UI sound.
The PS5 system UI has been scarcely lacking in customisation options. The Welcome Hub finally allows players to add a custom wallpaper but only when the Welcome Screen square is highlighted. There’s no options for custom themes, either.
This little gesture PlayStation has put out to celebrate its history does show the PS5 is capable of having custom themes.
PlayStation has kicked off its 30th Anniversary celebration with the sales of limited edition PS5s and DualSense controllers and game discounts. There’s more to come: we haven’t heard about My First Gran Turismo since the announcement.
