The PS4 is getting a new software update that adds in a good chunk of welcome changes. Version 5.50, codenamed Keiji, is not live just yet, but Sony decided to share the details early.
The new update adds more family control features, handy for fathers and mothers that need to control their children’s playtime. You can specify when that child account has access to games or allot a specific amount of playtime. Playtime can be lengthen should it be required and you can have the console immediately log out of the account once play time is over should you choose so. (Please don’t be too cruel to your little gamers. Let them save first)
The UI is getting some quality of life changes, specifically the library. Now you can hide games that you won’t be touching ever again (like demos and betas), a new seperate list of games within that is on the console and games tied to your account. In addition, PS Plus free games have their own specific tab too, with a new special icon to indicate the game is locked until you renew your PS Plus subscription.
For PS4 Pro users, you can now run it in supersampling mode. What it does is it will run the games on 4K but scale it down to your current TV resolution. Downscaling it like this is a common trick on PC, and it does help give better image clarity. This should make the Pro more useful even without a 4K TV.
Other cool additions like improvements to the quick menu, customisation for tournaments team pages and the ability to import custom wallpapers via USB can be found on the Playstation Blog.
