Firewalk Studios, the developer behind the poorly-received multiplayer shooter Concord, has been shut down.

PlayStation released an internal email by Herman Hulst (CEO, Studio Business Group, Sony Interactive Entertainment) which announced the closure of Firewalk as well as Neon Koi.

Concord was released, and then closed down within two weeks as PlayStation explores its options. The game on Steam was regularly updated with something according to SteamDB as spotted by PC Gamer, suggesting the game is being reworked in some form.

But the email by Hulst has put the nail in the coffin for Concord. “After much thought, we have determined the best path forward is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio,” Hulst said in the email.

PlayStation announced a partnership in 2021 with ProbablyMonsterss and Firewalk Studios in 2021 for a new multiplayer IP, which we later know as Concord. In 2023, PlayStation acquired Firewalk from ProbablyMonsters. Concord was teased in 2023, but the full reveal was only done earlier this year, months ahead of its doomed launch.

PlayStation’s venture into live service has been rocky, and so is their efforts in mobile games. Neon Koi was acquired by PlayStation (back then as Savage Game Studios) in 2022 to front the new PlayStation Studios Mobile division. Neon Koi has not released any games during this period.

The closure of the two studios will affect 210 jobs, as per Bloomberg.
