Outward Is An Open World Action RPG With Split-Screen Multiplayer

Now, this is interesting. Outward is an upcoming open world action RPG developed by Nine Dots and published by Deep Silver.

It features lush environments to explore, survival elements like hunger, disease, and the elements, limited carry space in your backpack. It’s part survival game. Also, the combat has a Dark Souls-esque feel to it with deliberate strikes, and it features a deliberately hard to pull off magic system.

But Outward also features the ability to do all this in multiplayer. Not just online multiplayer, but good old local split-screen multiplayer. Now you can get lost with a friend or reliably have an adventure together through the harshest of weather and the toughest of bosses.

Have a look at this first dev diary, which showcases the game’s dedication to realism in a fantasy world and explained why. It also shows a bit of the split-screen multiplayer.

In addition, a new dev diary showcases how the backpack and map system works. How big your backpack and how full it is will affect your combat move speed. And the map of the world does not feature player markers. There are all deliberate design choices, as discussed in the dev diary video below:

Outward is a difficult game by design and if you’re up for a realistic take on an open world action RPG with survival elements, this is something you should put on the radar.

Outward will be out on PS4, PC (Steam) and Xbox One on March 26th.
