It looks like Nintendo is slowly making its presence official here in Southeast Asia. After the creation of an official page for Singapore and Thailand, the next in line is now Malaysia, as spotted by local YouTuber and (friends of the site) The Kampung Nerd:
The official page mirrors most of the content seen on other regional sites. But now we have some semblance of official support. The site shows a list of locations for repair services and official retailers.
Well, both lists have only one entry at the moment, courtesy of regional distributor Maxsoft (the Lazada and Shopee pages are under name M.M. Soft) which has been selling Nintendo Switch consoles and games officially here. Maxsoft officially distributes Nintendo products in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.
Still, it’s a sign of progress. Nintendo has yet to offer the eShop here for digital purchases, but the fact that the console and game maker acknowledges the existence of the SEA market and its legion of fans here is great to see.
In Malaysia specifically, only Sony has a proper official presence here, with local deals and discounts happening regularly. Microsoft has been offering PC games via the Microsoft Store but has yet to officially bring the Xbox consoles in this market.
UPDATE: It looks like Nintendo has also set up the same website for The Philippines as well, announced at the same time based on the timing of the announcement posts on Nintendo Southeast Asia’s Facebook page. (Thanks Kakuchopurei)
