When developer Genki revealed that it will be reviving the Tokyo Xtreme Racer (Shutoko Battle) series with a new entry coming next year, the announcement teaser was shown with a lack of cars.
But it’s good to know that there will be cars in this illegal highway racing game. Licensed cars in fact. A new teaser shows an in-game model of the Nissan Skyline GT-R V·Spec II R34.
This is one of hopefully many more licensed cars.
The Tokyo Xtreme Racer series didn’t have licensed cars to begin with, using close approximation yet legally distinct car models. It was only until Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 where the series has licensed car models, predominantly from Japanese manufacturers.
This short teaser is the first of many more. The next car teaser, seen when “NEXT” is displayed on scren, looks to be the silhouette of the legendary Mark IV Toyota Supra.
Hopefully it won’t be long until we get a confrimation if the Rolling Guys will be rolling in their signature Toyota AE86 cars or not. But now we know if the Speed King returns to grace us again, his chariot of choice is available.
The original Tokyo Xtreme Racer was released in 1999. Unlike other racing games, Tokyo Xtreme Racer has you roam the Tokyo Expressway and challenge other possible racers in a 1-on-1 “SP Battle” race where each race is a tug of war (or a fighting game match) of who can outrun the other while avoiding any collisions.
The new Tokyo Xtreme Racer game is set to launch in 2025 for PC (Steam).
