A revision of the current PS4 hardware will replace the current system by this year. The slimmer PS4 is not a huge surprise since it was somehow was on sale on an auction site, leaked on forums and social media, got some journalists coming to see the console to confirm its real and not just a 3D printed box, a video of the console booting (but later asked to be taken down by Sony), unboxed and even reviewed. It will also see a slight revision of the current Dual Shock 4 controller where the light bar can also be seen at the top, front part of the touchpad.
So what’s interesting about it? Other than a design revision and slightly slimmer, it’s basically a PS4. This is mostly Sony’s part on leveraging economies of scale and now can produce the PS4 in a cheaper manner. The new look refresh also does away with the odd touch-sesntive power and eject buttons that many users have had issues and used physical buttons instead. Plus, it makes the PS4 and the newly announced PS4 Pro look similar- to denote that both are basically PS4s- but easy enough to tell in a glance which is which (The Pro has another layer on top like a kek lapis).
At least we can put the whole rumour mill to the rest. The leaks are unfortunate for Sony considering the PS4 Slim is nothing much of a slimmer PS4 thus not much to talk about other than a new look. But still, with it being placed on the same price level of the original PS4, $299 USD (RM1349, as revealed by Playstaion Asia), that should drop the original price even lower now, so those waiting to pick up a PS4, his might be the best time to get one at a discounted price.
