New Rage 2 Gameplay Trailer Shows Some Vehicular Combat

A little bit of Mad Max in the Rage

Rage 2 is the sequel to the lukewarm-received Rage, id Software’s last game before they returned in style with Doom 2016. This time, they are partnering up with open world specialists and developers of the Mad Max game Avalanche Studios for the sequel.

This is clearly evident in this new gameplay trailer revealed at Quakecon 2018. The open world with various biomes will also have convoys you can attack, similar to Mad Max. But now there’s more guns at play, including mortars.

Outside of that, the gameplay trailer basically explains the context of the E3 gameplay trailer, breaking down the many mechanics at play. During the shooting sections you can go into Overdrive. Rage’s trademark weapon, the boomerang-like Wind Stick returns, with the possibility to upgrade it. The various factions were shown briefly, the Immortal Shrouded and the Goon Squad getting the spotlight.

Rage 2 will be powered by Avalanche’s game engine rather than id Software’s idTech engine like the previous game. It will be out on the PS4, PC and Xbox One in 2019.
