You Suck At Parking developers Happy Volcano announced their next game. And no, they are not calling out on another skill you lack of.
Their next game is Modulus, a factory builder automation game. It’s a chill take on the genre (no combat like Factorio), and involves building conveyor belts tied to a grid (no spaghetti mess like Satisfactory). To compare with contemporary factory builders, Modulus is more like Shapez 2.
Modulus will have you cut, stamp, colour and assemble 3D shapes. There is a modular aspect in that you can create your own modular blocks. Have blocks enter an assembly building and you can combine them like 3D tetromino blocks. So it’s a bit more involved, and it brings more opportunities to be creative, just not the chaotic kind.
Modulus doubles down on the meditative quality of factory automation with its aesthetic choice. The white floors with occasional plantlife surrounding the landscapes adds to the zen-garden feel.
The first series of dev blogs reveal how Modulus works. From its clockwork system in how to calculate operations, to the low-poly art style.
We can now add Happy Volcano into the long list of game developers that can do very disparate style of games. Happy Volcano also previously made a narrative puzzler The Almost Gone as well as the aforementioned You Suck At Parking (our review here).
Modulus is coming to PC (Steam), but there’s no release window yet.
