Streamline Studios, one of Malaysia’s video game development/co-development studios has contributed to the development of indie sci-fi city-builder/industrial strategy game Industries Of Titan.
The Kuala Lumpur-based team’s contribution to Industries Of Titan is, fascinatingly, not just in making art assets (which they also did- artists created voxel art, 2D illustrations, icons, mission banners and visual effects).
For Industries Of Titan, Streamline also worked together with developer Brace Yourself Games in optimisation. Streamline has worked on games based on Unreal Engine before and has leveraged that experience to make engine-level optimisations.
Programmers were also on board to study the codebase early in development which leads to them being involved directly in implementing features into the game.
The collaboration was not just voice calls over a 15-hour time difference. Several devs from Brace Yourself, based in Vancouver, Canada, even visited KL to work with the team at Streamline directly.
Industries Of Titan was first released as an Early Access title in 2020, with “a very strict monthly update schedule” which they have never missed. This is the first time Brace Yourself has collaborated with another studio for game development.
Here’s a video where Yeap Hong Cheng, Associate Producer at Streamline Studios, talks in detail about how the collaboration went with an appearance by Any Nguyen, game director for Industries Of Titan at Brace Yourself Games.
It now makes more sense for an indie team like Brace Yourself to have spread itself into two teams and have two different Early Access games entering version 1.0 in the span of a week, and it’s thanks to having some extra hands from this side of the world.
Literally a week after Industries Of Titan left Early Access, the same devs released the turn-based/real-time strategy tactics mech game Phantom Brigade. While we haven’t tried out Industries Of Titan, we did give the other Brace Yourself game a try recently- you can read our impressions of that here.
