Kaigan Games, the Malaysian-based developer known for the Simulacra series (and one Doctor Who tie-in game) has ditched the phone for their next game, Nullspace.
Described as an “RTS game set in space, combined with exploration and RPG elements to deliver a narrative adventure that spans across the cosmos”.
A technical alpha video trailer shows some gameplay and there’s no phone-based UI in sight, this is a very different game to their bread-and-butter. The video shows some exploration where you navigate ships in space, dialogue choices, and tactical space combat.
The game is said to also offer “casual 4X gameplay” so light sprinkling of building bases and gathering resources.
Kaigan Games are mostly known for their found phone horror experiences, where players navigate the game by exploring someone else’s smartphone. Nullspace, from what we’ve seen, is a total change of direction. This may bum some of the fans who just want more of what these devs have done before, but this new direction looks exciting.
The game was first revealed at GDC 2023, where it won the Best In Play award alongside seven other games (one of which is Speed Crew).
Nullspace has no release date yet.
