The much-anticipated follow-up to indie Metroidvania (search action game) Hollow Knight has a release date. Hollow Knight: Silksong is real and will be out next week.
Developer Team Cherry initially developed Silksong as an expansion (DLC) for the original Hollow Knight, released in 2017. The project was then scaled up by 2019 into a full-on sequel, with little direct communications since. Fans have been rabid for any morsel of an update from the devs, which went radio silent for about seven years, to the point where the practice of, as Folding Ideas dub it, “Silkposting,” where fans create shitposts for the community clamouring for any news, emerged. They were that rabid, not too dissimilar to the wild antics of the Batman Arkham subreddit.
In Hollow Knight: Silksong, you play as Hornet as you traverse interconnected 2D worlds filled with bugpeople and fight challenging foes including bosses. It’s essentially more Hollow Knight, and Hollow is a tremendously well-made Metroidvania at that.
Silksong will finally be out on September 4 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, GOG), Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will also launch on Game Pass day one at launch.
