The Garena Student Allience (GSA) Championship 2017 is set to be held this November, where 32 universities across Malaysia compete in League Of Legends and FIFA Online 3 for prizes in the form of partial scholarships up to RM62,000. The event will be entirely be run by the GSA, esports clubs affiliated with Garena, which also received guidance and exposure to running esports events, such as the Garena Bootcamp which took place in July.
“Our primary objective is to educate the students through hands-on experience and hope the Malaysian campus scene becomes the pioneer region for Southeast Asia.” said Chun Jan Bong, GSA Coordinator.
The GSA Championship will see ASUS Republic Of Gamers (ROG) stepping up as official sponsors. One League Of Legends team from the tournament will lend a chance to compete at the international level in ROG’s Join The Republic: Community Challenge. This will be held in Stockholm, Sweden and will see countries such as China, Spain, United States, Thailand, South Korea and Taiwan participating.
“We are excited to be part of this tournament which is primarily run by GSA eSports Clubs in Malaysia,” ROG representative, Ren Hu, said. “The students play a big role in the gaming community and we can’t wait to see gamers and influencers share this journey from Malaysia to Stockholm together.”
