We’ve known that Gran Turismo 7 is in development for the PS5, and will harken back to the style of past numbered entries instead of the esports-focused Gran Turismo Sport.
The reveal trailer showed a familiar town-based menu, the return of classic fantasy track Trial Mountain (with a major makeover), the promise of higher fidelity graphics like the use of ray-tracing.
And here’s another reminder that developers Polyphony Digital is aiming for that.
Speaking to Octane Japan (as translated by GTPlanet), GT series producer Kazunori Yamauchi has stated that “Gran Turismo 7 will return to the royal purpose of full volumes like [Gran Turismo] 1-4, and provide the best Gran Turismo experience at present.”
Though its esports endeavours, the FIA-Certified GT World Championship from GT Sport will be brought to Gran Turismo 7 as well. Even if, as Yamauchi remarked, “it may have seemed quite outlandish for some people!”
In the same interview, Yamauchi also acknowledges the influence of Gran Turismo in the widespread of Japanese car culture. “Although the title has been played worldwide, I have never forgotten that it originated in Japan,” he said. “And now I feel the responsibility and mission of inheriting the Japanese automobile culture.”
There’s no new info of Gran Turismo 7 here, but it’s a good reminder to fans of what to expect when the unmistakenly Japanese-made racing game arrives on PS5.
