Southeast Asian game publisher Garena has acquired Phoenix Labs, the makers of free-to-play Monster Hunter-like Dauntless.
Phoenix Labs have announced this in a public letter by its CEO Jesse Houston.
Garena has been working with other developers to publish various games for Southeast Asia, like League Of Legends and the FIFA Online series.
More recently, they have made headways with their mobile game offerings, most often partnering with Tencent. These games include Free Fire, that Contra game, Arena Of Valor and Call Of Duty Mobile.
In the letter by Houston, Phoenix Labs promises that the acquisition means Dauntless will continue to be updated:
“For you, our valuable community, this change means we’re able to continue to add even more to Dauntless! More Behemoths, more weapons, more features like Escalation – in short, more of everything. This includes expanding to new regions and new platforms.”
Dauntless has plans to launch on mobile, but also barely have any Southeast Asia presence (the PS4 version has not launch on PS Store Asia yet). The partnership with Garena would possibly see these gaps be filled.
Dauntless has so far amassed over 20 million players since it’s out of Early Access. It is available on PS4, PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Nintendo Switch with cross-play and cross-save across all platforms.
