Future Games By Riot Will Not Be Published Under Garena In Southeast Asia

Here’s an interesting nugget of information. Alongside the many games announcements on the Riot Pls 10th Anniversary Livestream (which includes the long-fabled fighting game), there’s one little announcement. Riot Games Southeast Asia will be self-publishing future games in the region.

Since 2011, League Of Legends is published by Garena in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. And this will remain the case. “Garena will continue to be our partner for LoL PC, and we are truly grateful for their ongoing support,” said Justin Hulog, General Manager of Riot Games Southeast Asia.

However, the many new games Riot Games are releasing and in development right now will be self-published in Southeast Asia.

“As we look towards the future of Riot Games, we want to continue to deliver upon our mission of being the most player-focused game company in the world,” said Hulog. “We believe that in order to do so, it’s important to directly deliver our new products to players where possible, and we are in a much stronger position to do so.

Those words may sound like a very indirect way to say Riot Games is self-publishing. So we asked a spokesperson for Riot to clarify. Here is the response:

“Riot Games will self-publish future games.

“As we look towards the future, Riot is in a stronger position to directly deliver our new games to players in Southeast Asia. That said, we are considerate of countries in which we need to leverage local partners such as Vietnam and Taiwan.”

Teamfight Tactics Mobile, Legends Of Runeterra and League Of Legends Wild Rift will all be published by Riot and requires a Riot account, not a Garena account. League Of Legends will still be published and supported by Garena.
