Frostpunk 2, the much-anticipated story-driven survival city builder sequel by 11-Bit Studios, will not be released on July 26. It has now been delayed to September this year.
This delay allows the developers to work on addressing the feedback it has gained from a previous beta test.
“We believe these additional features are something you deserve to see in-game on day one, not in a patch added after the release,” the delay announcement reads, attributed to Jakub Stokalski (Design Director) and Łukasz Juszczyk (Art Director).
“We can only hope you understand that our decision comes from a place of wanting to create the best game possible for you.”
The delay will see Frostpunk 2 be bolstered with UI/UX improvements, as well as new game mechanics and a new game feature not implemented in the beta build.
The list of new gameplay features, as per the announcement post, include:
- Changes to temperature, Heat and proximity-based gameplay, including new and rebalanced Hubs, that will make the city-building gameplay deeper and more impactful
- More detailed and flexible workforce management
- More direct-use abilities in the game loop, to allow you to react to crises more dynamically
- A new resource to make city-building and expansion more strategic, helping you stabilise the city’s economy
- Ability to reshape your districts after their construction
- Factions’ behaviour that is better aligned with their lore
- A more thorough and complex approach to dealing with protests
The UI/UX changes that have been confirmed being worked inlcude (but not limited to):
- Improving the HUD (Head-Up Display) to make it clearer and more intuitive
- Adding a new construction menu along with five new city Hubs
- Improving the clarity, readability and look & feel of the Idea Tree and frostland
And the new feature being added is called Zoom Stories. This allows players to zoom into a specific part of the city to watch the day-to-day life of citizens living in an apocalyptic, frostpunk world of eternal winter.
Frostpunk 2 is now slated for release on September 20. The game will launch on PC (Steam, Microsoft) and also coming to PC Game Pass.
