FragPunk, the 5V5 rule-breaking tactical shooter, is heading to consoles.
Launched on PC last March, this free-to-play game by NetEase Games had 110,000 peak concurrent players on Steam. And now it’s about ready to head to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Fragpunk will feature cross-play and cross-progression between the console and PC versions.
In addition, the console version of FragPunk will have enhanced aim assists, as a feature to reduce disparity between controller and keyboard-and-mouse players.
FragPunk has that tactical shooter (to be specific, more like Counter Strike 2) gunplay, but with a twist. Shard Cards allows players to “break the rules of combat” by having wacky power-ups akin to cheat codes from video games of the past. From increased rate of fire to Big Head Mode. All this while you do rounds of bomb-defuse mode.
Plus, it has that punk aesthetics with a dash of comic book splashes similar to when Ubisoft first revealed the soon-to-be-defunct free-to-play shooter XDefiant. Somehow, NetEase made it work, it helps that this isn’t associated with any existing IP.
NetEase Games, an established juggernaut when it comes to free-to-play mobile games, is on a roll with its free-to-play live service games for PC and consoles, with its other recent offering Marvel Rivals continue to be solid rival to Overwatch 2 in the hero shooter space.
FragPunk will go live on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on April 29.
