Alleged dead game and game show game Fall Guys had a big announcement today, and that is long-announced released on different platforms. But it’s also going free-to-play.
Fall Guys launched on PlayStation and Steam, but on June 21 it will be coming to Xbox, Switch and Epic Games Store. Developers Mediatonic is now owned by Epic Games.
Speaking of which, Fall Guys will support cross-play and cross-progression tied to your Epic Games account, similar to Rocket League which was also acquired by Epic before.
Players who owned the game get a Legacy Pack of DLC costumes.
The full announcement stream also revealed the target performance for the Xbox and Switch versions of Fall Guys. Here’s a list of target FPS and resolution for Xbox and Switch platforms:
Switch
- Handheld: 30fps, 720p
- Docked: 60fps, 1080p
Xbox
- Xbox One: 30fps, 1080p
- Xbox One X: 60fps, 1080p
- Xbox Series S: 60fps, 1440p
- Xbox Series X: 60fps, 2160p
The PS5 version, also coming this June, will have the same performance target as the Xbox Series X: 60fps, 2160p (4K).
Fall Guys was at one time at the peak of the zeitgeist before other similar games and media like Among Us (similar looking beans but the game involves murder) and Squid Game (Fall Guys in real life but with murder and a sharp commentary on capitalist). This free-to-play launch might be the big push to get Fall Guys back in the minds of gamers.
While the jokes about dead game continue daily on Twitter, Fall Guys have continued to be updated with new levels and cosmetics, including collab costumes. The free-to-play launch will start back at Season 1.
Also, the game teased a course editor feature, coming soon.
Fall Guys will be out on June 21 on Xbox, Switch and PC via the Epic Games Store.
