Faceminer Is a “Hardcore Thriller Clicker” That Combines Late 90’s OS Aesthetic With The Horrors Of Data Collection

Here’s an upcoming indie game covering a very, very specific niche. Faceminer, by Wristwork, describes itself as a “hardcore thriller clicker set in 1999”, where you build a biometric data processing empire.

What this translates to, by looking at the trailer and screenshots, is a game where you have to navigate a computer that has the look and feel of Windows 98, while manually clicking through oodles and oodles of pictures to match a person’s face. What if face recognition is done by hand, manually?

Between that and having the presentation evoking late 90’s computing (the game even has those dreadful boxes with the X on it and blue screens), this could be a horror game for some. Or another fascinating take on interface games like Hypnospace Outlaw, Orwell and Kingsway.

The trailer sure sells that late 90’s vibe with the thumping techno music. A good amount of “unce unce unce” can be heard.

Faceminer has no release date yet, but it’s coming to PC via Steam.
