Escape From The Procedurally-Generated Backrooms In Anemoiapolis: Chapter 1

It’s wild that dread can be instilled by looking at an empty, public, space. But here we are. If you’re looking for a horror game that riffs on “The Backrooms” found footage videos, you might want to check out Anemoiapolis: Chapter 1.

Described as a new “new psychological horror game inspired by the viral ‘liminal spaces’ horror subgenre”, Anemoiapolis: Chapter 1 will see you be lost in a sprawling but empty resort. And you must get out of there.

All you see are empty halls, empty pools and dead malls. Also, a lot of carpeted floors (please don’t say it has carpeted kitchens).

Interestingly, the whole labyrinth of backrooms is procedurally-generated. So it’s supposed to make you feel lost as if you’re going around in circles.

To put things at ease (or make the dread even worse), there’s also a soundtrack by JORDANN and 4REST to accompany your journey.

The game is solo-developed by Andrew Quist.

Anemoiapolis: Chapter 1 will be out on PC (Steam, Itch.io) on February 27.
