Epic Games Store Expands Cloud Save Support, Improves Game Pages

It's getting there, slowly

Epic Games Store wants to challenge Steam’s de-facto status of the PC game storefront. Which should be good competition with its very nice benefits for developers if it wasn’t that the store itself is lacking too many features as Epic spends more money on acquiring exclusives. But that’s not to say Epic isn’t improving the store.

We have first seen the rollout of cloud saves last month, but now more games join the list. Here are the games on Epic Games Store that has cloud saves:

  • Alan Wake
  • Close to the Sun
  • Darksiders III
  • Enter the Gungeon
  • Genesis Alpha One
  • GNOG
  • Hyper Light Drifter (note: currently disabled as Epic works on some issues)
  • Kingdom New Lands
  • Limbo
  • Moonlighter
  • Mutant Year Zero
  • Overcooked
  • Rebel Galaxy Outlaw
  • Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter
  • The Sinking City
  • This War Of Mine
  • World War Z

Epic is focused on getting games already on the store to have cloud saves first. As seen with Hyper Light Drifter, there are still issues with the feature so it’s not just a matter of turning on a switch. The plan is to have all future games that will be on the store to have cloud save as it releases, which should be nice. All Ubisoft games on the store do support cloud saves via UPlay.

Also, the storefront’s game page has some changes too. There are now videos as well as screenshots, this time placed at the top of the page. Game details like release dates and who’s the developer and publisher are put closer to the top too, not buried under the long page of screenshots.

If you buy games via Humble Bundle, there is now keyless integration with Humble Bundle. Linking your Humble account (check in the settings) to an Epic account and you’ll redeem keys automatically.

As for what’s in store, Epic is now working on having the videos on the video page stored on their servers, improved installation tech for Ubisoft games so it’s faster and uses less space, patch optimisation so game updates will require smaller downloads and a list view for your library.

No word on when the shopping cart which lets you buy multiple items in one transaction will be coming, though it’s still on the roadmap.
