What’s with the sudden boom of golf games? After 2K pulled a big move with signing Tiger Woods to a long-term partnership for its PGA Tour 2K Series, it looks like EA is making a new golf game as well. With the PGA Tour licence too, as part of a long-term deal.
EA Tiburon, the folks that made the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games from years ago, will be leading the development. This next-gen golf game will also be built on EA’s Frostbite engine.
EA won’t have the Tiger Woods name for this new game, but they certainly won’t let 2K run away with the golf game pie they’ve slept on for a long while (the last golf game by EA was in 2015).
If anything, fans of golf (and golf games) should be excited for this new era of competition. As long as we get to see two competent PGA Tour games on the market, and not whatever EA tried doing with the NBA license for basketball, fans should be excited to see how two big publishers goes to tee with their golf games.
(Just… don’t put Ultimate Team in it, please)
