EA App On PC Leaves Beta, Replacing Origin

The EA app has now left open beta. The “next-generation PC game platform” (or “yet another useless launcher that isn’t Steam for my PC games” for some folks staunchly against having many different PC game launchers) is now ready to replace the previous Origin app as the destination to get PC games published by EA.

Existing Origin users on Windows will be getting an invite to switch to the EA app soon. Though the launcher is already available to download here.

All local and cloud save and your friends list will transfer over seamlessly.n And if you were using the EA app in its beta form previously, the hour count of playtime for the app also adds the hour count that you clocked when you launched games from Origin too.

Mac users will have to stick with Origin at the moment, the EA app is only launched on Windows.

Speaking from our experience using the EA app in its beta form, it is indeed faster than the EA claims compared to Origin as the announcement blog post stated. But it has its own quirks. You won’t see a store tab. Instead, you have the “browse” tab that highlights games you can get via EA Play- EA’s game subscription service- making that the focus. You can still buy games, it’s just been less emphasised.

Still, it is an improvement, but a minor one considering how it’s been two years since the new EA app has been in development.
