Codemasters have revealed some new information on what to expect of Dirt 5’s multiplayer mode. One of the last trailers teased something about vampires.
Turns out, Dirt 5 will have multiplayer party modes. It’s a call back to the party modes in Dirt 3 (but missing in Dirt 4). If you’re familiar with Forza Horizon, think of it as the playground modes.
Vampire is essentially Dirt 3’s Outbreak, with a new name and presentation. One car becomes the designated vampire, with matching red headlights and has to punt other racers and turn them into vampires. Survive until dawn to win.
King has you picking up two crowns, where the crown holder gains the most points. Kings will leave a trail of coins to pick up which rewards points, albeit less than a crown can give. Most points take the crown proper and win.
Transporter is Dirt’s take on Capture The Flag. The twist is that the longer someone is holding the flag before capturing it, the more points they bank- which should encourage some risk-versus-reward gameplay.
Normal online racers will also be available in Dirt 5 and like recent Codies games, will earn you progression in terms of currency and unlocks.
All multiplayer modes are capped at 12 players max. Party modes will be held at special arenas whilst races will use the 10 locations seen in the main game. Multiplayer has cross-gen cross-play- PS4 players can play with PS5 players, and Xbox One players can play with those on Xbox Series.
Dirt 5 launches on November 6 for the PS4, PC and Xbox One. It will also arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 as launch titles and will offer free next-gen upgrades on both console families.
