Crimson Desert Sales Pass 3 Million

Pearl Abyss has announced that its single-player open world action-RPG title Crimson Desert has now sold over 3 million copies.

The game sold 2 million copies on launch day alone, signifying strong pre-release hype.

“To everyone who has stepped into Pywel and shared this journey with us, thank you,” the dev team says on their social posts announcing this. “Your feedback continues to help shape the experience, and we will keep working to make the journey ahead even more enjoyable for our players.”

Despite the strong sales, Crimson Desert is far from perfect and Pearl Abyss has be catching flak for various aspects of the game, which in fairness to them, are being addressed quickly.

The game launched with not only no support for Intel Arc GPUs, the game simply refused to boot up, with the FAQ support suggesting players with these graphics cards to refund the game. Intel issued a statement that they’re happy to get the game supported, Pearl Abyss followed suit in confirming Intel Arc GPU support is being worked on for Crimson Desert.

Players also found undisclosed usage of generative AI in various in-game paintings in Crimson Desert. As one would know from other examples including the announcement of Nvidia DLSS 5, gamers generally are vehemently not in support of generative AI use. Pearl Abyss issued an apology and affirmed that they will be replacing these supposedly placeholder assets.

Less controversially, Crimson Desert has an unconventional control scheme and control feel. The first post-launch update for the game, which just launched last week, are already starting to address these issues.

While rife with issues, fair play to the devs for responding to feedback this quick.

Crimson Desert is out now on PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Mac, and Xbox Series X|S.
