Colossal Order’s city-builder Cities: Skylines just got its first expansion DLC for the year, and the first since almost a year, in the form of Airports. The expansion allows you to create modular airports with a progression system that unlocks more airport customisation.
If you have expansions like Parklife, Industries and Campus, you’ll know what to expect. It’s a similar template but now for airports.
In addition, there’s a new free update available for all players. The update adds improvements to AI aeroplanes, which will fix issues where planes just circle above an airport endlessly. Other public transport services, in particular, that ones with a connection to outside of the city, has been improved so that they are less frequent but can carry more passengers.
Also, the road avenues with trees can now have their trees customised. This is done by going to the landscaping tool, selecting a tree you want to plop, and placing them on the road segment. This means you can now have perfectly aligned palm trees for your avenues.
14 new tree assets, created by MrMaison, will be included in the free update.
Also, you can now sell or buy soil. Previously, terraforming works by digging up land and placing them back. So if you plan to make new hills, you need to dig some holes from somewhere, and if you want to dig big holes, you have to dump the soil somewhere. Now you have the option to just buy or sell soil to avert this pain when landscaping.
Finally, you also get to customise your service vehicles. If you have a Content Creator Pack or mods that add new fire engines, police cars, ambulances, garbage trucks or hearses, you can select which vehicle the service building will use. Select them and you should see a new button on the bottom-right of the building details tab (if you have additional custom vehicles available).
It’s small little changes, but changes that for those that may have not messed around with mods (or have no access to mods like the console versions), these are nice little touches to keep you sprucing up your urban jungle.
Cities: Skylines Airports DLC and the free update is now available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) as well as PS4 and Xbox One.
