Beat Your Ex-Bandmates To The Beat In Rhythm Game Brawler Dead As Disco

Have you ever had the thought that more games should try and be like Hi-Fi Rush? Here’s something close called as Dead As Disco.

Developed by Brain Jar Games, Dead As Disco is a beat-’em-up that syncs to the music. You play as Charlie Disco, the dead drummer of the band Dead As Disco where for one night, you get to confront your ex-bandmates, now called the Idols, by beating them up to the music.

The gameplay shows Charlie Disco throw hands to the tunes of pop songs, rap music and a rave remix of Michael Sembello’s Maniac. No flashdancing here, or Disco, but ol’ Charlie Disco can bust a move, with a combination of 3D and side-scrolling fight sequences.

“Every punch, kick and combo syncs seamlessly to the soundtrack,” the game description reads. That’s not just a tightly edited gameplay trailer. On paper, it’s sort of like Hi-Fi Rush. But not exactly.

Dead As Disco will feature a selection of original soundtrack that should be streamer-safe, as well as “licensed bangers from the past and present.” And if you’re not content with that, Dead As Disco takes a page from the Beat Hazard series as it allows you to upload your own music. You can also edit music videos out of beatings you do on the beat as the game promises mod support and user generated content (UGC) as a feature.

And lastly, Dead As Disco also features co-op play, as well as leaderboards.

Dead As Disco should get fans of good ol’ beat-’em-up brawlers and rhythm games excited by this fascinating blend of genres.

If you fancy trying out Dead As Disco for yourself, the game will have a playtest available from May 23 to 27 via Steam Next Fest.

Dead As Disco has no release date yet, but it’s coming to PC (Steam).
