AMD Reveals First Navi-Based GPU: Radeon RX 5700 Series

AMD had a big show at Computex this week. They have finally unveiled the new Navi-based GPU, the next-generation of its graphics card to power the next Playstation and more.

Unlike the previous Vega GPUs, Navi is under the new RDNA (Radeon DNA) umbrella of GPU architecture. The RDNA family is touted to have 1.25 times higher performance-per-clock and 1.5 times higher performance-per-watt compared to the previous GCN architecture which powered the previous Vega-based GPUs.

Navi GPUs are the first to use PCIE 4.0.

The first product revealed under the Navi-based GPU is the AMD Radeon RX 5700 series- an extra digit from the previous generation’s naming convention. The live demo at Computex shows the GPU running Strange Brigade at 100fps and is compared toe-to-toe with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX2070.

It’s a lot of concept-heavy details so far outside of the demo. But it has been confirmed that we will hear more of the RDNA and RX5700 series at AMD’s Next Horizon event at E3 2019.

The Radeon RX 5700 Series will be available this July.
