Alan Wake Remastered Announced, Coming Later This Year

The first of many new Remedy projects is a familiar one. Today the Finnish developer announced a remaster of 2010 supernatural horror game Alan Wake.

Sam Lake, lead writer of the original release revealed on the Alan Wake (and Remedy) fansite The Sudden Stop that it will be a multiplatform release (including on PlayStation for the first time), and is published by Epic Games Publishing.

Alan Wake was originally published under Microsoft. At one point the game was delisted before permanently reapparing again. If you’ve been grabbing the weekly Epic Games Store freebies, you might have snagged a copy already.

“The original game was only available for Xbox 360 and a few years later, PC,” Lake wrote. “We are thrilled about the opportunity to bring the remastered version out for a new generation of platforms. I am excited to hear what you think about Alan Wake.

Alan Wake tells the story of the titular character, a writer who woke up one day with his wife dissapeared during their vacation trip in Bright Falls. What he ended up finding are pages of a thriller he didn’t remember writing and more mysterious, supernatural happenings.

Alan Wake is part of the same universe Remedy’s last game Control is a part of, with the latter’s DLC even referencing the events that happened in Alan Wake from a different perspective.

Expect the remaster to tell the same story and offer the same experience of the original release. But now with enhanced cinematics, a new character model for Alan Wake plus “some choice next-generation upgrades.”

Alan Wake Remastered will be out sometime this fall (later this year) for the PS4, PS5, PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
