The Rogue Prince Of Persia, an indie roguelite take on the Prince Of Persia series developed by Evil Empire and published by Ubisoft, was supposed to launch two weeks ago. And then Hades II just stealth-launched.
But now The Rogue Prince Of Persia is finally out in Early Access.
In The Rogue Prince Of Persia, players will be jumping and fighting in a mythical version of Ctesiphon, a city in the Persian Empire now overrun by the Huns commanded by chief Nogai.
As the Prince, players have access to various weapons, trinkets and equipment to journey through the procedurally generated levels featuring multiple biomes, various enemies and traps.
There’s 6 biomes, 8 main weapons, 6 tools, 2 boss fights and 30 trinkets available in the Early Access launch, to be precise. Expect more content to be added throughout the Early Access period.
Also, following the footsteps of Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown, the soundtrack of The Rogue Prince Of Persia is produced and composed by an artist of Persian/Iranian descent. For this game, that artist is ASADI. The soundtrack fuses “traditional and modern sonorities”, and hopefully does use authentic sounds associated with the region, rather than an Orientalist take on what sounds like Persian music. You can hear the music in the launch trailer.
(There’s a whole video essay from a ethnomusicology point of view show how Western-made media has incorrectly portray what is authentic music from the Middle East and its surrounding regions.)
The full soundtrack of The Rogue Prince Of Persia will launch on May 31 available on all major music streaming platforms.
The Rogue Prince Of Persia is available now in Early Access on PC (Steam).
