Chill With You: Lo-Fi Story is a game that’s more than just a game. Developed by Japanese indie devs Nestopi, Chill With You can be used as a productivity app, a way to listen to a curated soundtrack of lo-fi music and ambient sounds that also has a story to uncover featuring Satone, the girl that, as the title suggest, is chilling with you.
And yes, there’s a Pomodoro timer. On top of that, you can create a to-do list as part of the game’s productivity suite. The game lets you customise the lo-fi music playlist or pick from various ambient sounds to keep you locked in to your work and/or study.
Satone isn’t just there on screen doing her work looking like a legally-distinct Lo-Fi Girl. You also get to know her as a person during your break times, navigating conversations like a visual novel.
After its launch on PC last year, Chill With You now arrives on iOS and Android. Like most premium mobile games, it’s free to download with 10 story episodes (the gameplay bit), more than 30 lo-fi tracks and access to work focus tools. The full version includes the full story, focus tools and ambient sounds as seen in the PC version. Full parity.
Speaking of, online data synchronisation is available between PC and mobile, these can be transferred between both platforms. So if you have notes and to-do-lists on the PC version, you can bring it over to work via mobile, and then transfer back to PC when you’re back home. In other words, Chill With You has cross-progression. However, the game/app now no long supports offline launch as a result.
While there’s plenty of desktop toy games making a resurgence as of late (see Weyrdlets and My Little Life), Chill With You isn’t quite similar to those, though adjacently related. Chill With You does more than just a game, and works best when set to a second screen, in contrast to desktop toys that share screen space.
Sometimes you just need someone, real or otherwise, to accompany you when you’re study, work, or do something facing the PC screen. Now with a mobile version, you can have Satone, well, chill with you, through your mobile device, with both vertical and horizontal screen orientations supported.
