10 Million Nintendo Switch Units Sold Worldwide In Less Than A Year

Switching things up proved to be a gamble paid off for Nintendo. The Nintendo America Twitter page just announced that 10 million Nintendo Switch units have been sold worldwide. That is only for the first nine months of sales.

It is only a matter of time for the Switch to outsell the Wii U, which sold 13.56 million units in its lifetime of five years. It will still need to play catch-up, Sony’s PS4 has sold 70.6 million units so far and Xbox One sales were last reported to have sold at least 26 million units. Nintendo will ramp up production of the Switch in the next fiscal year.

We still don’t have proper support from Nintendo for Southeast Asia, unfortunately, but seeing the strong numbers shows that console-portable hybrid is a very attractive package.

It’s a shame that it is a bit more expensive to get one in Malaysia (around RM2000+ as a bundle with a game or two, where the PS4’s Hits bundle get you three games and the console for only RM1349). But with the success in tow, let’s hope for a price cut and more availability in the future.
