70.6 Million PS4s And 2 Million PS VRs Have Been Sold Worldwide

Talk about impressive numbers. Sony has announced that they have sold over 70.6 million PS4s all over the world as of December 3.

By comparison, the PS3 took seven years to sell 80 million units. The PS4 only took three years to reach 70.6 million, proving that the cheaper price point, a strong library of exclusives and some blunders at launch time by rivals Microsoft have made the PS4 the console to beat this generation.

PS VR, the cheapest gaming VR headset on the market, also proved popular, reaching 2 million units sold. Sony also mentioned that the 150 titles available for PS VR has sold 12.2 copies both in retail and digital stores. It’s still quite low compare to the 617.8 million of PS4 games sold in retail and digital via the Playstation Store, but for a nascent tech and platform, PS VR is doing fine.

“We are delighted that so many people are enjoying the unique entertainment proposition of PlayStation 4 and that an emerging technology like PlayStation VR continues to gain traction,” said Andrew House, now Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “I cannot thank our fans and partners enough. Their support, since the launch of very first PlayStation in 1994, has helped to make PlayStation one of the biggest console gaming network in the world.”
