The remake of the first Yakuza game is coming out in English soon, and Sega has released a new trailer to show off more of Kazuma Kiryu’s first adventure now remade with the tech that powered Yakuza 4, 5 and 0.
Being a remake, Yakuza Kiwami took some liberties with what content it offers. Kiryu now has four different fighting styles, a carry over from Yakuza 0. The brawler style is the default, balance, no-nonsense fighting style. Rush favours quick dodges and light attacks to keep enemies on their toes. Beast style should wreck havoc with its great crowd control swings and the ability to immediately grab weapons, including motorcycles, with an attack move.
If you prefer Kiryu’s moveset from the original game, the Dragon style is also available.
More mini-games were briefly shown from the trailer. Series staples like karaoke and mahjong are back. The last bit where two ladies are fighting should remind you of the catfight arenas from Yakuza 0. There is a lot of gameplay features being carried over from 0 but fans of the original should not worry too much as the main plot is still faithfully recreated in its full.
The English release of Yakuza Kiwami will be out exclusively for the PS4 on August 30 in Asia, and based on the pre-order page, will be available for the very low price of RM89.90.
