Microsoft just dumped a load of information regarding its next-generation console, the Xbox Series X. We now have the full spec sheet, all the angles of the towering console (all the ports at the back included), and even how its innards are constructed.
But one cool thing we like to highlight is the confirmation of its storage capabilities. Yes, it’s still a “custom” SSD, but now we know the Xbox Series X comes with 1TB of this custom NVME SSD as standard.
Not only that, but you can also expand the storage via a storage expansion on the back of the console. These storage expansion cards, 1TB storage each, should replicate the performance of the internal custom SSD- an NVME SSD in memory card form. This means there should be no compromise of using the expansion card compared to the internal storage.
Most likely, these cards are expensive, but no word on pricing yet.
If you would still prefer to use external hard disks, it looks like you’re still in luck. The Xbox Series X supports USB 3.2 external HDDs. So it only supports newer external hard disks. Still, that is an option, and most likely, cheaper.
The Xbox Series X is still scheduled for release later this year.
