Atlus just announced the release date for the remake of Persona 4, Persona 4 Revival. And now the drip feed of information has started rolling out, starting with new tweaks to the gameplay for the upcoming RPG.
The following implies you are familiar with Persona 4’s style of gameplay, as we’re only explaining the new stuff Atlus just revealed.

When dungeon crawling, you now have the ability to guard against Shadow attacks. Should you miss the opportunity to first strike it get the Chance Encounter advantage, and is caught off guard that is instead ambushing you, guarding will send them reeling with a chance to turn the tables to strike back and gain that previously lost advantage.

The turn-based battle system also has some new tricks. You can send enemies flying when fighting two or more Shadows. If a Shadow has a status ailment, a basic attack them will sent them flying to another Shadow that not only deal damage on them, but also spread the status ailment.

Baton Pass, a feature seen in Persona 5, is in Persona 4 Revival. When you get that 1 More, you can opt to perform a Baton Pass to hand over that extra turn to another party member. With the right party setup, Baton Pass chains can be done to keep hitting enemy weaknesses.

A new feature in the combat of Persona 4 Revival goes all in with the TV theming. Dubbed Prime Time, this is activated when you fill up a new gauge over the course of battle. When Prime Time is engaged, you can perform consecutive actions and use skills at no SP cost. Enemy Resistances are ignored. And do Baton Passes freely if you need to. Prime Time ends with a Series Finale that deals significant damage.

The battle UI has also adopted the one-button command rather than the traditional scrolling menu, as introduced in Persona 5 and carried over to Persona 3 Reload and even Metaphor: ReFantazio. And for those wondering about the auraful pose where you see those jumbo screens and text tickers highlighting the character posing through a dutch angled camera view, that’s the new All-Out Attack end screen.

A more comprehensive look at the story, characters and new features of Persona 4 Revival will be revealed through a special Persona 4 Revival Broadcast, scheduled to go live on June 19, 7 AM Malaysia Time (+8 GMT) on Sega Asia’s YouTube channel.
